OLT Online Taxes Reviewer's Comments

OLT OnLine Taxes is a good online service if all you need to do is file your return without assistance. OLT has some limited features, such as checking your return for incomplete information but, the service lacks most of the features that other tax preparation software applications boast of, such as an owe/refund meter, tax tips, and ongoing assistance (see product comparisons). OLT is the bare bones way to file your taxes. Filing a Federal tax return costs $7.95 and a State tax return costs $7.95.

Intuitive Navigation:  

The navigation is intuitive but there are no back or forward buttons to navigate to previous sections.

Novice-Friendly:  

This solution is just like filling in the paper forms yourself, but without the paper. Therefore, it's not a good solution for a novice user.

Ease of Sign-up:  

Because this product is available online, there is no download or installation necessary. You do have to setup an account, though, which takes a few minutes. You also have to worry about keeping the account name and password safe.

Feature Set:  

One of the unique features of eFile is that you can subtract the cost of filing from your refund so you aren't required to pay anything up front. Other than this, there are few redeeming features. Most notably the program lacks specific, custom advice on the best ways for you to minimize your tax bill.

Help/Documentation/Search:  

This service posts 35 pages of searchable knowledge base information as well as a FAQ section. They relate that they only offer limited phone support and that their chat and email options are quicker to respond.
